What is Found in Town?

FOUND IN TOWN (FiT) is a universal, web-based lost and found service fueled by branded lost device recovery tags. FiT’s lost device recovery service (LDRS) simplifies the process of returning a lost item to its owner, using anonymous, serialized FiT ID numbers and a simple, online instant messaging portal.

How does it work?
1. Users activate their FiT ID numbers at by providing basic account and contact information.
2. Activated FiT tags are then placed on the user’s personal belongings, such as keys, wallets, and mobile phones.
3. When a tagged item goes missing, the finder can enter the FiT ID at to anonymously and instantly contact the item’s owner and facilitate its return.

What if I find a lost item with a FiT ID on it?
Enter the item’s FiT ID at the top of this page, and drop it off at the lost and found of a trusted business nearby. Advise in your message to the owner where the item is located, for example: “Your phone was returned to the front desk in the hotel,” or “I found your keys, they have been turned in at the 7-11 on Halsted”.

Does the finder get my email address and name when they enter my FiT ID?
No. The finder receives no information about you whatsoever. The FiT ID acts as an anonymous ID to be used to contact you. The finder provides information regarding your lost item’s whereabouts anonymously, or can offer his/her contact information if so desired. We encourage all found items to be returned in safe, public places.

Is it just in Chicago?
No. FiT’s LDRS can be used by anyone, anywhere, with access to the internet.

Can I have more than one FiT ID?
Yes. Users may activate multiple FiT IDs to the same email address.

I’ve lost my marbles. Can FiT help?
Not yet, but we’re working on it!
